Stackbone vs Mastra
Mastra and Stackbone both leave you with TypeScript code in your own repository. Mastra is an open-source framework: developers write the agents and workflows and deploy them to a Node server, a cloud provider or the Mastra platform. Stackbone is a platform around that code. The people who know a process describe it, Stackbone builds it on @stackbone/sdk with the data plane already wired, and Studio gives Finance, Operations and Compliance an approvals inbox and an audit log.

Side by side
| Stackbone | Mastra | |
|---|---|---|
| Who builds it | The person who knows the process describes it, and Stackbone builds it. Developers can write the same code directly with the CLI and their own coding agent. | TypeScript developers write agents, tools and workflows with the open-source Mastra framework, and test them in Mastra Studio. mastra.ai |
| What you end up with | A TypeScript repository: agents and durable workflows, versioned in Git like the rest of your software. | A TypeScript project of agents, workflows and memory, registered on one Mastra server that runs as an API. mastra.ai |
| When the process changes | IT opens the repository with its coding agent, changes the step that moved and ships it through a pull request. Prompts and configuration are versioned in Studio: publish a version or roll back to an earlier one without a redeploy. | Developers edit the code in their repository and ship it with mastra deploy, or connect the GitHub repository for push-to-deploy. mastra.ai |
| Where it runs | Stackbone Cloud, or your own AWS, Azure or GCP account, self-hosted, on-prem or air-gapped. The same code runs on all of them. Pick any model from any provider, and use the built-in Postgres, object storage and RAG or point Stackbone at your own. | Any Node.js, Bun, Deno or Cloudflare runtime: your own VM, container or Kubernetes, AWS, Azure, Vercel, Netlify, or the hosted Mastra platform. mastra.ai |
| Integrations | 700+ connectors with 6,000+ actions and 1,500 triggers, authorized once in Studio and reused by every automation, plus any service with an OpenAPI spec. | MCPClient connects agents to any MCP server, and MCPServer exposes Mastra agents, tools and workflows to other MCP clients. mastra.ai |
| Approvals and audit | Irreversible steps wait in an approvals inbox. Every run is recorded step by step with the workflow and prompt version it used. Finance, Legal, Sales and Operations each read those runs in their own dashboards, and a new one is built by describing it. | A tool marked requireApproval pauses before it runs until someone approves or declines it, for deletions, costly calls or protected data. mastra.ai |
| Best fit | Companies that want their teams to automate their own processes without losing control: the business builds, IT owns the code, and everyone sees the results. | TypeScript developers building AI agents and AI features into their own applications. mastra.ai |

✓ means the product’s own documentation shows it. “✓ on” a plan means only that plan has it. ✗ means their documentation says it is not supported. “Not documented” (“No info” in the matrix) means we found nothing either way, and we do not read silence as a no.

When to choose Mastra
- You want a library inside an existing TypeScript app, such as a Node or Next.js backend, and your developers will own every agent.
- You want an Apache 2.0 core with many deploy targets, including Vercel, Netlify and Cloudflare.
- Your team only needs a framework, a place to test agents and a deploy target, and will pick its own database, storage and connectors.
When to choose Stackbone
- People outside engineering should start automations by describing the process, and IT should take over the same code afterwards.
- You want the database, object storage, RAG, secrets, model gateway and connectors wired into the repository from the first commit.
- Finance, Operations and Compliance need their own views, an approvals inbox and an audit log over every run.
